Our Process

How an engagement actually runs.

No discovery phase that lasts a quarter. No deliverable that arrives after the moment for it has passed. Four stages, each with a clear end, and you can stop after any of them.

01

The Conversation — free, 30 to 45 minutes

You tell us what's going on. We ask questions — some of them uncomfortable, because the useful ones usually are. We're trying to establish three things: what you actually want, what's genuinely in the way, and whether we're the right people to help.

There's no presentation and no pressure. If we can give you something useful in that call and never speak again, that's a fine outcome.

  • You leave with An outside read on your situation and a clear yes or no on whether we should keep talking.
02

The Honest Read — typically within a week

We go deeper. Depending on what you're dealing with, that might mean reviewing documents, looking at how money moves through the business, examining how your file would look to a funder, or mapping where your pipeline used to come from and why it stopped.

Then we tell you what we found. Including — especially — the parts that are inconvenient. This is the stage where people most often hear something they've been avoiding, and it's usually the stage that changes the outcome.

  • You leave with A named bottleneck, the reasoning behind it, and a realistic view of what fixing it involves.
03

The Plan — specific, sequenced, owned

Not a strategy document. A sequence: what happens this week, who does it, what it costs, and what the first measurable signal looks like that it's working.

We're deliberately conservative about scope here. Three things that get done beat eleven things that get started. If the plan requires a licensed professional at some point — an attorney for a structure decision, a CPA for a tax question — that's written into the sequence as a step, not left as a footnote.

  • You leave with A written plan with owners, order and timing, and a clear first move.
04

The Execution — as long as it's useful

We stay in it. Preparing and reviewing documents, making lender or vendor introductions, coaching through the decisions as they land, and adjusting when reality disagrees with the plan — which it will, somewhere around week three.

Engagements run monthly, project-based or on-call depending on what fits. We'll recommend the lightest version that gets the job done, and we'll tell you when you no longer need us.

  • You leave with The result — and enough understanding of how it happened to do it again yourself.

Working Together

What we ask of you.

The engagements that work have these three things in common.

I.

Candor

Tell us the real numbers and the real situation, including the parts that are embarrassing. We've seen worse, we're not judging it, and we can't help you around a problem you've hidden from us.

II.

Responsiveness

Funding windows close. Vendors move on. When we need a document or a decision, the speed of your reply is often the single biggest factor in the outcome.

III.

Willingness to be wrong

The reframe only works if you're open to it. The clients who get the most out of this are the ones who can hear "the thing you're proud of is the thing costing you money" and actually sit with it.

Common Questions

Before you call.

Nothing. It's a real conversation about your situation, not a sales call with a discovery label on it. If it turns out we're not the right fit, we'll tell you in that call rather than three weeks in.

It depends entirely on scope. Some work is a single consultation. Some is a defined project. Some is an ongoing monthly relationship. We quote after the Honest Read stage, when we actually know what's involved — not before, when we'd be guessing.

No, and neither can anyone else who is being honest with you. We are not a lender and we do not make credit decisions. What we can do is give you a straight assessment of where you stand, help you present your file properly, and introduce you to funding sources in our network whose criteria fit your profile. The decision belongs to them.

No. We are not a registered investment adviser or a broker-dealer, and we do not recommend, sell or advise on securities, investment products or portfolios — in any context. Our work is consulting, coaching and education around operating a business and managing its structure, documentation, credit and pipeline.

No. SCM Partners is not a credit repair organization. We do not dispute items on your behalf or promise score changes or removals. Our credit work is education and consulting: how profiles are built and read, what strengthens them over time, and what rights you already have to address inaccuracies yourself at no cost.

The Conversation and the Honest Read typically happen within a week to ten days of first contact. From there it depends on the work — a lead campaign can produce activity in days, while a documentation or structure fix is measured in weeks. We'll tell you the realistic timeline before you commit, not after.

Yes. Most of our work is by phone and video, and our clients are across the country. Where a matter is jurisdiction-specific — formation, for example — we'll flag what's state-dependent and where you need local licensed counsel.

Start Here

Start with the conversation.

It's free, it's honest, and it either produces a clear next step or a clear no. Both are better than where you are now.
